2025年4月、ブルガリアの名門校・ソフィア大学から、ロシツァ・シメオノヴァ准教授を福山大学にお迎えしました。今回の来学は、ヨーロッパの教育・文化交流を推進する「エラスムス・プラス（Erasmus+）」プログラムの一環として実現したもので、滞在中、学生向けに6回の特別講義を実施し、福山大学の学生たちに大きな刺激と学びをもたらしました。その時の様子について、大学教育センターの前田が紹介します。

In April 2025, Associate Professor Rossitsa Simeonova from Sofia University, one of Bulgaria’s leading institutions, visited Fukuyama University. Her visit was part of the Erasmus+ program, which promotes educational and cultural exchange across Europe. During her stay, she delivered six special lectures for our students, providing them with great inspiration and valuable learning experiences. In this article, Maeda from the University Education Center introduces the highlights of her visit.

教育と社会福祉のエキスパート

An Expert in Education and Social Welfare

ソフィア大学教育学部社会福祉学科に所属する、ロシツァ・シメオノヴァ准教授は、30年以上にわたり学士・修士・博士課程の教育を担当し、社会福祉や教育実践のトレーナー・コンサルタントとしても活躍しています。また、ブルガリア教育省やユニセフ・ブルガリアのコンサルタント、労働社会政策省・教育科学省の立法作業部会メンバーとして、国の教育・福祉政策にも深く関わってきました。ソフィア大学教育学部副学部長（研究・国際協力担当）も務め、欧米各地の大学や国際学会での講演経験も豊富です。

Associate Professor Rossitsa Simeonova, from the Department of Social Work at the Faculty of Education, Sofia University, has over 30 years of experience teaching at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. She has also been active as a trainer and consultant in the fields of social welfare and educational practice. In addition, she has been deeply involved in shaping national education and welfare policies, serving as a consultant for the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and UNICEF Bulgaria, as well as a member of legislative working groups at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the Ministry of Education and Science. She has also served as the Deputy Dean for Research and International Cooperation at the Faculty of Education, Sofia University, and has extensive experience as a guest lecturer at universities and presenter at academic conferences across Europe and the United States.

Special Lectures at Fukuyama University

シメオノヴァ准教授は今回、以下の4つのテーマで講義を行いました。

ブルガリアのキャリア支援と学生サポート

「EU経済論Ⅰ」と「キャリアデザインⅡ」の講義では、ソフィア大学のキャリアセンターの取り組みや、キャリア教育における学生支援の具体例が紹介されました。インターンシップ紹介、履歴書添削、面接対策、同窓ネットワーク活用など、体系的なキャリア支援の充実ぶりに学生たちは感心していました。

Career Support and Student Services in Bulgaria

In the “EU Economics I” and “Career Design II” classes, she introduced the initiatives of Sofia University’s Career Centers and provided concrete examples of student support in career education. Students were impressed by the comprehensive services offered, such as internship placements, résumé and cover letter support, interview preparation, and leveraging alumni networks.

デジタル化時代における教育の挑戦

「インターネットリテラシー入門」の講義では、ブルガリアの国家戦略「デジタル・ブルガリア2025」や「国家AI戦略2020」に基づく教育分野のデジタル化政策について解説されました。ICT教育の普及やAI活用の先進事例に、学生たちは驚きと感動をもって耳を傾けていました。

Educational Challenges in the Digital Age

In the “Introduction to Internet Literacy” class, she explained Bulgaria’s national strategies, including “Digital Bulgaria 2025” and the “National AI Strategy 2020,” focusing on the promotion of digitalization in education. Students listened with great interest and surprise as she shared examples of advanced ICT education initiatives and AI applications.

知られざるブルガリア文化の魅力

「国際化と地域創生」の講義では、ブルガリアの歴史・文化遺産、民族音楽、キリル文字の起源などが紹介されました。「GCC」では、ワールド・カフェ形式で、ブルガリアやソフィア大学に関する意見交換を行いました。異文化理解を深める機会となり、学生たちは新たな視点を得ることができました。

The Hidden Charms of Bulgarian Culture

In the “Internationalization and Regional Development” class, she introduced Bulgaria’s rich history, cultural heritage sites, traditional music, and the origins of the Cyrillic alphabet. In the “Global Communication Class (GCC),” a World Café-style discussion was held, where students exchanged ideas about Bulgaria and Sofia University. These sessions provided valuable opportunities for deepening intercultural understanding and gaining new perspectives.

ソフィア大学とブルガリアの紹介

「イングリッシュ・ゾーン」では、ソフィア大学の教育方針やキャンパスライフ、ブルガリアの教育環境について、学生との対話を交えながら紹介しました。未来創造館1階のオープンスペースを活用した開放的な公開講義で、たまたま通りかかった学生たちが足を止め、思わず聞き入る様子も見られました。

Introduction to Sofia University and Bulgaria

In the “English Zone” session, she shared insights about Sofia University’s educational philosophy, campus life, and Bulgaria’s educational environment, engaging students through an interactive dialogue. Held in the open space on the first floor of the Future Creation Hall (Miraisouzoukan), the lecture attracted even passing students, who stopped to listen, drawn by the open and welcoming atmosphere.

ライブ翻訳による新たな試み

A New Initiative: Live Translation

今回の特別講義では、Microsoft Translatorアプリを用いたライブ翻訳が初めて試験導入されました。講師の英語講義がリアルタイムで日本語に翻訳され、教室前方のスクリーンに表示される仕組みで、英語が苦手な学生でも安心して講義を理解できるよう工夫されました。

また、福山大学が導入しているライブアンケートシステム「Respon（レスポン）」を活用し、学生たちは翻訳アプリで英訳した質問を即時に投稿。言語の壁を越えた活発な意見交換が実現しました。

During this special lecture series, a live translation system using the Microsoft Translator app was trialed for the first time at Fukuyama University. The professor’s English lectures were translated into Japanese in real time and displayed on a large screen at the front of the classroom, allowing even students less confident in English to follow the content with ease.

Additionally, Fukuyama University utilized its live polling system, “Respon,” enabling students to instantly post questions that they translated into English using free translation apps. This system facilitated active exchanges with Professor Simeonova, overcoming language barriers.

この仕組みにより、講義後には質問が大幅に増え、学生からは「理解が深まった」「満足度が高かった」といった声が多く寄せられるなど、非常に良い成果が得られました。

Thanks to these efforts, the number of questions submitted after the lectures increased significantly, and many students commented that their “understanding deepened” and their “satisfaction was very high,” resulting in a highly successful outcome.

このように、学生たちは講義を通じて異文化理解を深めるだけでなく、自らのキャリアや将来に対する意識を高めるきっかけを得たようです。

The students who attended the lectures shared a variety of impressions and questions, including:

“Thanks to the real-time translation, I was able to fully understand Bulgaria’s approach to internet-based education.”

“Although I’m not confident in English, I was able to follow the lecture by reading the translations, and I was impressed by the comprehensive career support offered in Bulgaria.”

“I realized the differences between Japan and Bulgaria in digital education, and I was inspired to further develop my own ICT skills.”

“I was motivated by the fact that Bulgarian students start thinking about their career paths at an early stage.”

Through these lectures, students not only deepened their understanding of different cultures, but also gained greater awareness of their own career development and future aspirations.

A Warm Message from Associate Professor Simeonova

福山大学での講義を終えたシメオノヴァ准教授から、次のような温かい言葉をいただきました。

「日本の学生は恥ずかしがり屋で質問が少ないと聞いていましたが、福山大学の学生たちはとても積極的で素晴らしかったです。皆さんの前向きな姿勢に感動しました。」

また、福山大学の春を彩る美しいつつじにも感銘を受け、

「素晴らしい自然環境の中で学べる福山大学は、本当に恵まれた学習環境だと感じました。」

との嬉しい感想も寄せられました。

After completing her lectures at Fukuyama University, Associate Professor Simeonova shared the following heartfelt message:

“I had heard that Japanese students tend to be shy and ask few questions, but the students at Fukuyama University were very proactive and wonderful. I was deeply impressed by their positive attitude.”

She also praised the beautiful azaleas that color the campus in spring, commenting:

“Fukuyama University offers a truly blessed learning environment, surrounded by such magnificent natural beauty.”

国際交流を超えて、未来へ

Beyond International Exchange: Toward the Future

特別講義だけでなく、学内施設の見学や大学幹部との懇談、ウェルカムディナーなどを通じて、シメオノヴァ准教授と福山大学との交流はさらに深まりました。今回の講義をきっかけに、学生たちが海外に興味を持ち、将来、世界に羽ばたく一歩を踏み出してくれることを期待しています。私自身も、今回の学びを糧に、今後の講義や研究活動に活かしていきたいと思います。

福山大学とソフィア大学との絆がさらに深まり、備後地域にいながら国際的な視野と視点を育める大学へと、ますます進化していくことを願っています。

In addition to the special lectures, Associate Professor Simeonova’s visit included tours of our campus facilities, meetings with university executives, and a welcome dinner, further deepening the ties between Fukuyama University and Sofia University. We hope that this opportunity will inspire our students to develop an interest in the world beyond Japan and take their first steps toward a global future. Personally, I also hope to apply the insights I gained through this experience to further enhance my own teaching and research activities.

We look forward to strengthening the bond between Fukuyama University and Sofia University even further, and to continuing our growth as a university where students can cultivate a truly international perspective right here in the Bingo region.

Words from the President: Welcome to Fukuyama University, Associate Professor Rositsa Simeonova, who was dispatched from our partner university, Sofia University, through the “Erasmus Plus” program, which is operated to stimulate educational exchange with EU countries. Many students were fascinated and inspired by the diverse content of her six special lectures. It was also important to note that the simultaneous interpretation application, which was used for the first time for this occasion, enabled a much deeper understanding of the lecture content.
