INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE Department of Mechanical Engineering
INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE
Mechanical Engineering includes the development, design, manufacturing and maintenance of machinery. Recently, the scope of mechanical engineering has been enlarged. There has been steady progress from simple machines to more complicated and advanced ones. Today, machines with extremely intelligent functions are popular. Therefore, the present age demands mechanical engineering specialists who have the capacity of adaptability and creativity in the new technical areas and have knowledge not only in their own specialized fields but also in wide interdisciplinary fields as well.
To meet these demands, Department of Mechanical Engineering was established on the Faculty of Engineering in April 1991.

STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE
Concerning the points mentioned above, the essentials of the course are as follows;
- Serious study of basic science and fundamental engineering subjects.
- A Systematic view of each subject.
- Trainning for a creative view through study of specialized subjects.
The subjects in the course are categorized into fields, namely: fundamentals of mechanical engineering, strength of materials, engineering materials, advanced materials, fluid engineering, thermal energy systems, systems engineering, machine design systems, mechanics of machinery, and industrial process systems.
The students study 21 required subjects in the basic curriculum for the major, and other elective subjects.
In addition, students complete the subject メpractice of design and trial productionモ in the third year, to develop creativity and have the experience of presentation. In the fourth year, thesis research in provided to give students experience in research methods and presentation.
